Hi Nigel,
just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how much Charlie
loves his new board, he has even been found lying on the living room
floor cuddling it ! Swell has been fairly non-existant since he got it
but he managed a quick session in some really small surf last sunday,
bloody freezing and tiny but he was generating more speed and getting
more turns in than he ever would have on his old board. I've attached
some photos but i'll send some more once he gets out in some decent
swell.
Thanks again for the service and quality, you probably have a customer for life.
cheers
Patrick

This was Russ having some fun on his 5’10’’ x 18 3/4’’ x 2 3/16’’ new Bullet modell. This board we changed the tail rocker just a little so it would go better in bigger waves
than his 5’8’’ board which is his perfect all round board for here. Looks like he had some great waves. Big thanks to Geof Tydeman for the photos.
All of us at the foam asylum and NS Boards are really proud that Russ did so well and was so unlucky not to get to the final. His surfing was of the highest standard and this video just shows how good he and his board where going in what was not perfect waves. Russ has worked with me know for a few months and we have just released his new board The Bullet which is 5’8’’ x 18 3/4’’ x 2 3/16’’. This board comes in other sizes and is in the shops now so if you are interested please get in touch. Or just speek to Russ he will be only to pleased to help you out.
Russ got off to a good start today and looked good on his new board the Bullet 5’8’’ x 18 3/4’’ x 2 3/16
Relentless Boardmasters in Association with Vans - surfing has begun
Day 1
The Men’s 5 Star WQS Surf competition kicked off today, signalling the start of the Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans 2010. Crowds on the beach at Fistral were witness to the best surfers in the world taking on the solid 3-4ft waves crashing on the Newquay shore. It was a wet cloudy start to the morning, but that didn’t stop the talent from shining. The waves were coming consistently all day, which ensured high performance surfing was the only key to progression through the heats.
Newquay resident and the UK’s most successful surfer Russell Winter won his heat with ease posting the highest heat score of the day (15.33), follow closely by 2009 ASP European Junior Champion Marc Lacomare (15.00) who also scored the highest single scoring wave of the day (8.50). WCT surfer Travis Logie currently No.30 on the World Tour also cruised his heat booking himself a place in the next round. Another Brit to win a spot in round 2 was Sam Lamiroy who battled through a close heat to come out on top. 2009 RBM finalist Txaber Trojaola looks motivated to go one further this year and become the Relentless Boardmasters 2010 Champion.
Check Ollie’s new Bullet board he has just had it delivered to Sportshop Domburg. He put his own spray job on, looks like my sprayer has someone after his job. The spray looks sick nice one Ollie.

Russell Winter wins The Saltrock Open
Russell Winter is the new Saltrock Open Champion. The final took place in clean, 3 ft sets in a sun soaked Croyde and brought to an end a hard fought and very well supported competition.
Russell, who is originally from London but now calls Newquay home has been the English, British and European surfing champion and is generally regarded as Britain’s most successful surfer. He is a regular on the UKPST and was the first European surfer to qualify for the WCT tour where he famously once beat Kelly Slater in a heat at Sunset Beach in Hawaii.
Russell surfed hard and put in some excellent wave scores throughout the heats to arrive in a final fully charged and ready to take on fellow finalists Sam Lamiroy, Angelo Bonomelli and Reubin Pearce. All four finalists had had a great contest and surfed well in the steadily improving conditions, but Russell was generally considered to be the stand out surfer of the competition.
Tim Stafford looks back with Nigel Semmens over his definitive surfing career, and considers his position as one of the finest shapers in the land.

This little weapon is 5’10 x 18 x 2 1/8, doesn’t get any more high performance than this, and is just one of the many little beauties
just in at the Foam Asylum shop.
So far so good, I'v been in Australia for 2 weeks and surfed snapper, kirra,d bah, lennox heads and south stradbrook island. The swells havent been pumping but the water is warm and the sun is out. Last time i was here in 2005 there was the superbank at coolangatta, now they have stopped pumping the sand there is more of a mellow wave there, not as perfect as it used to be which is a shame but on the bright side my 5'8 fish is going completely insane out there and its definately good to be linking more than 2 turns together like i would be at home in a 5mm wetty at fistral. so its all smiles from oz, I'm travelling south for a few days to surf a place called yamba its going to be epic yeeew! more barrels please :) here’s a screen shot from the go pro hd head cam from the inside of a kirra barrel! footage to come soon. Cheers Tim
This is Leigh from Foam Asylum! formerly Surfers Paradise, Same location, New look and more importantly Great new stock!
Happy new year Nigel,
forgive me i dont think i emailed you to let you know how i got on with the 6'3 travel board you made for me last summer!? ...it made Impossibles more then possible and i had some great waves on it there, Binging, Balangan and middles!!!
I have just recieved a spanking new 5'11 fish for my 30th birthday from my brothers! It looks great and i cant wait to get out on it! My old 6'1fish i got 9 years ago is wafer thin in places, i dont know how it hasn't snapped! it has been the best board ever and has been pinched by mates on more then one occasion! I'm looking forward to seeing what the updated model has up its sleeve! I'll let you know!
Cheers mate, all the best for 2010
Justin
Hi Nigel,
I am a 53 yr old australian and have been surfing the east coast of
australia all my life.
Recently I was holidaying in Sri Lanka with my wife and 2 kids.
I did not take a surfboard as i had a mate who lives there who told
me he had plenty of boards. He was in Thailand when we arrived so i
ended up hiring a board off the beach.
It was one of your boards a 7foot rounded nose squarish tail with a
slight v through the rear [I copied all the details written on the
blank including the number.
I have owned probably around 100 boards over the years in and I have
to say this rated up there with the best of them even though I am now
a podgy old bloke
Anyway, Australians don't hear of english shapers and this is just a
short compliment to let you know I am now a fan of your boards and if
I find one in australia I will definitely be giving it a try.
Regards,
Brett Banwell,
